Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth appear at the very back of the mouth. They are sometimes called the ‘Third molar’ and usually erupt at around 18-25 years old but can present earlier or even later on in life.
Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure but not everyone with wisdom teeth needs to have them removed. The most common reasons to have wisdom teeth removed are:
They are Impacted– Sometimes they can grow sideways or on an angle, which causes the teeth beside them to trap the wisdom teeth under the gum or jawbone that can sometimes cause pain.
They are Decayed- Because wisdom teeth are so far back in the mouth and sometimes never erupt fully they can be difficult to keep clean, as it can be quite hard to get a toothbrush or floss back there. This causes decay in the tooth and if left long enough can reach the nerve of the tooth and cause a lot of pain.
Your Mouth Is Not Big Enough- Some patients have small mouths and jaws that make it difficult for wisdom teeth to come through. When they do start to come through there usually is not any room for your wisdom teeth to fully erupt which can create a food trap underneath your gums that can become quite painful.
